Don't stick with her if she's so mean especially! Take your business elsewhere. You don't deserve that. She didn't care about your feelings so you don't have to care about hers. Especially since you're the client and she's the hairdresser. Remind her of that. She listens to you. Not the other way around. If she refuses to accept this, leave.

Well if you are paying for the haircut then I don't see the problem with making either one mad. If you are not then you need to talk to your mom first.

Just go to someone else. She may be upset but you'll be happy that your hair is how you want it. If you see her somewhere just tell her how crappy your hair looked and that she never did what you wanted.

any stylist, friend or not, should be open to your thoughts and ideas. if she's not, it may be best to cut ties!
now maybe you should see if your school has a cosmetology program and you can get your hair done there. the students there are very open to learning and you can tell your family friend (if you're afraid of making waves) that you get extra credit for volunteering time or something like that ;)

You are paying her to provide you a service. If you aren't happy with the result go elsewhere. I had been going to same stylist from the age of 12 till I was probably 26. On a whime I went to another stylist. The next time I went back to my regular stylist and surprisingly she didn't say a word and she was totally fine with it. Now I tend to trade off. Pretty much every other time I go back to her.
You know how most people say it's not personal, it's business? Well this isn't one of those times. It is personal. Hair is a very personal thing. It expresses your style, your personality, it creates the first impression, it's EVERYTHING! If you're not happy with the results you're getting, by all means go elsewhere. And if your current stylist is upset about you leaving don't let it bother you. A good stylist never needs to worry about loosing business.
I hope that helps. Good luck in whatever you do next time!

Without knowing how old you are and what the situation is where you live regarding how many salons there are, it's hard to advise you. But here's a thought. Find someone whose hair you like. Find out where she gets it done and who does it. Then explain to your mom that you think that you'd like to try that stylist. As for the friend, tell her that you were given a gift certificate to that salon and that you couldn't waste it. If you're happy with the results then you'll just have to show your mom how cute you look and she'll just have to deal with her friend. Her friend may not be keeping up with the trends and she may not know how to do what you want. If she doesn't have access to continuing education and to hair shows, then she may not be able to create the look that you want.
I'm a hairdresser. Show this to your mom if you want to.

Girl tell your mom you aren't going there anymore. I had to quit going to my aunt cause she couldn't do my hair the way I liked so since this stylist is so upset that you don't like her hairstyles she may be happy to see you move on.
